Youth Ministry
Our goal is to nurture our young people (grades 6-12) in their journey of faith as they develop a lifelong relationship with God in Christ. To do this we provide opportunities to:
Study the Bible and its relationship to our lives and the world, and experience the power of prayer.
Participate in mission and outreach projects.
Enjoy fellowship with one another and the church family.
Share open discussions of the life issues facing youth.
Sunday School
Students are invited to Sunday School from 9-10am during the school year for nourishment and conversation each week. Senior high and middle school students meet at the far end of the 2nd Floor. Contact susanh@blacksburgpres.org for information.
Youth Group
Youth Group meets most Sundays at 5:30-7:30 PM. Please check the calendar for plans each week. Contact Susan Hunter at susanh@blacksburgpres.org for more information.
Youth serve God through projects, and enjoy creation through hikes and fun activities together at other times and places. Youth help raise money for hungry folks near and far through the Souper Bowl of Caring, and CROP Hunger Walk.
Youth are given the opportunity to participate in worship throughout the year and to lead an entire worship service on "Youth Sunday" each spring. Adults who provide help and support as advisers are Colleen and Russell Drumheller, Mary Lee Hendricks, Jenny Fairchild, and Susan Hunter.
Retreats and Conferences
Setting aside time in our busy lives for weekend Retreats with other young people is a great way to feel God's presence. In the summer, youth have a chance to spend even more time enjoying energizers, keynote and small group discussions, worship, and fun recreation. All this is waiting for us, surrounded by beautiful mountains at the Massanetta Springs Middle School Conference in Harrisonburg, VA, and the Montreat Youth Conference for senior highs in western NC.
